Nobody is owed a fulfilled request, but you would be surprised how often "I need a weird thing" meets "I have been waiting my whole life to draw a weird thing."
- Be specific. Size, style, format, engine. "A 48x48 sprite sheet of a blacksmith NPC in MZ style" is answerable. "Need character art" is not.
- Show the context. A screenshot of where it will go helps an artist match your style instantly.
- Say what it is for, and whether the project is commercial. Many creators are happy to help either way, but they get to know first.
- Credit and thank. If someone makes you a thing, credit them in your game and come back to show it in use. That is the entire economy of this section: generosity and acknowledgment.
