Unreal for RPGs: overkill or secret weapon?

The conventional wisdom says Unreal is for shooters and AAA cinematics, not RPGs. The conventional wisdom apparently never met Blueprints, which let you build surprisingly deep RPG systems without writing a line of C++.

So let us have the real conversation:
  • Who here is building an RPG in Unreal, and what pulled you to it? The rendering? Blueprints? Existing experience?
  • Turn-based games in Unreal: less crazy than it sounds? The engine does not fight you as much as people claim.
  • The asset pipeline is heavyweight for solo devs. How are you managing scope?
  • Blueprints vs C++ for RPG systems: where is your line?

If you are Unreal-curious but intimidated, ask your questions here too. The engine's reputation for complexity is partly earned and partly myth, and sorting one from the other is what this section is for.
